View BioBert began skating at the age of 3 in Nashville. From 1987-2004 in qualifying competitions, he amassed 22 regional, sectional, national and international medals in singles and pairs, qualifying for the US Figure Skating Championships 11 times in Novice, Junior and Senior events. He trained in many regions of the country with international, world and Olympic coaches, including NFSC’s own Laura Sanders, Burt Lancon, Lyndon Johnston, and Peter Oppegard, among many others. He has passed through the 5th figure test, as well as Senior Gold Freeskating, Pairs and Moves In the Field. As a professional skater, Bert performed in nearly 3,000 ice shows throughout 32 different countries as a principal/featured act, including the Holiday On Ice production “Romanza” in 2005-2007, the “Mystery” production in 2007-2008 where he met his wife Meagan, and Evgeny Plushinko’s “Kings On Ice” Olympic Tour from 2008-2010. Bert went on to star in the Disney On Ice production show “100 years of Magic” as well as the Sun Valley 75th anniversary series “Summer Under the Stars”. Over the course of a busy professional career, he performed with 34 different Olympic medalists. Bert began coaching in 1995 teaching learn to skate classes, and continued to coach between competitions and tours in many places including on Frank Carroll’s coaching staff at Toyota Training Center In El Segundo. Retiring from professional skating in 2012, Bert’s main focus has been sharing his knowledge and experience with other young skaters. Currently, Bert is the Basic Skills Director/Program Development at A-Game Skate Academy and a full member of the PSA. He is also a level 2 USA Hockey Official.
